Liam Gallagher has been announced as a headliner for BBC’s new festival The Biggest Weekend.

Dubbed as “a replacement for Glastonbury”, The Biggest Weekend will take place at four sites across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland during the May Bank Holiday (25-28 May). Tickets and more information can be found here.

While Noel Gallagher had already been confirmed to headline the festival’s Scottish leg in Perth on May 26, his brother and former Oasis bandmate Liam has now been unveiled to play Coventry’s War Memorial Park alongside Paloma Faith, UB40 and Billy Ocean on May 27.

Speaking to Chris Evans on Radio 2 this morning (March 8), Liam said of the news that he will play the same festival as Noel: “We’re getting closer and closer, we’re gonna collide one day and who knows what will happen?”

Liam has since tweeted: “So I’m being sent to Coventry… looking forward to it”.

So I'm being sent to Coventry Sunday 27th of may looking forward to it as you were LG x

It had been previously confirmed that Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Noel Gallagher and Manic Street Preachers will all play Biggest Weekend shows.

They will be joined by Niall Horan, J Hus, Wolf Alice, Jess Glynne, Paloma Faith, Craig David, Franz Ferdinand, James Bay, Ash, Years & Years, Little Dragon, Young Fathers, Breeders and more.

Last year, the BBC announced that their new multi-location event would offer “coverage similar to that around Glastonbury”.

2018 will be a fallow year for Glastonbury to allow the farmland time to recover. The next festival will take place in 2019.
