Despacio, the specially-created disco experience from Soulwax and LCD Soundsystem‘s James Murphy, have announced that they’ll be returning in 2018.

A bespoke soundsystem designed by Murphy and the Dewaele brothers in collaboration with audiopioneers McIntosh, Despacio was designed to create the ultimate inclusive club listening experience. Together the three friends play their pick of vinyl from throughout the ages with superior quality. After being first showcased at the Manchester International Festival where club-goers described it as a ‘life-changing experience, it has also gained legendary status during events in London, the US, Glastonbury and various festivals since.

Now, Despacio have announced their return for 2018 – performing at the Knockdown Centre in New York from March 29-31, before heading to Sonar Festival in Barcelona from June 14-16.

It is hoped that more European and festival appearances will be announced shortly.

Speaking to NME about the future of Despacio last year, David Dewaele said: “It’s not on the backburner, there are a few offers to do it at some 2018 festivals. James and Stef have been texting each other going ‘LET’S MAKE THIS HAPPEN’ over and over again, but then it doesn’t happen. We haven’t done one in 2017, but hopefully we will. It depends on if it coincides with James touring and us touring. In the case of Despacio, it comes down to whoever is crazy enough to pay for it. It tends to be festivals.

“It can only hold a maximum of about 950 people, so for the amount of money you spend on something like that is not necessarily good value for money. We did it at Coachella last summer and they had about 70,000 come through it.”

LCD Soundsystem live at Alexandra Palace, London

Meanwhile, LCD Soundsystem have a busy summer of headlining festivals ahead (including All Points East at London’s Victoria Park), while Soulwax were this week announced to headline Beat-Herder.
