Donald Glover has described how being a rapper is “super awkward”.

The actor, writer, director and rapper – who releases music under his moniker Childish Gambino – appeared on the Late Show ahead of the return of his FX series Atlanta.

Telling host Stephen Colbert how it “would have been whack” in he had played a rapper in Atlanta, he went on to describe the show as “Curb Your Enthusiasm for rappers”.

“Being a rapper is super awkward,” Glover explained. “You’re in the video and you’ve got champagne and butts close to your face. And then you have to go to Whole Foods.”

“And [people are] like ‘You’re that dude,’ and you’re like, ‘Please, I just want to buy this ice cream.’ But they are like, ‘Yo, you have to be you right now, so let’s take this picture’. You’re like, ‘Alright’. You have to be that wrestler face, but in the real world all the time.”

Glover also met a father and daughter who recently parodied his song ‘Redbone’ in a viral video to help sell Girl Scout cookies.

Purchasing 113 boxes so that the youngster reached her sales target, Glover also helped hand out thin mints to members of the crowd.

Glover has also announced that he will perform new music at upcoming Childish Gambino gigs in New Zealand during November.

His ‘Pharos’ live shows are described as “an immersive virtual reality, multi-sensory concert experience”.

Atlanta returns this evening (March 1).
