Reading & Leeds boss says Arctic Monkeys ‘have their own plans’
 Add to favorites

The organiser of Reading & Leeds has revealed that Arctic Monkeys were not in the running to play the festival this year, as they’re lining up shows of their own.

Asked if the band were ever even considered to perform this year, Festival Republic boss Melvin Benn told the BBC: “Not really. The Arctic Monkeys have headlined Reading and Leeds twice before so they’re an act we’re always talking to.

“Was it ever likely for this year? No, it wasn’t. They’ve got their own plans.”

The interview also saw Benn respond to critics slamming this year’s as “the worst line-up ever” – while also addressing the gender balance of male and female acts on the bill.

Benn’s comments about the Monkeys “having their own plans” have added fuel to the rumours that the band are planning a string of huge homecoming gigs in their native Sheffield this summer – however reports have also surfaced that the planning application has now been withdrawn.

Arctic Monkeys are expected to announce album release details and news of more UK shows in the weeks ahead.
