Elton John appeared to mispronounce Ed Sheeran‘s name at last night’s BRIT Awards. Scroll below to watch video of that moment.

Sheeran, who lost out on several big awards on the night, was honoured with the Global Success award – with John sending a video message to introduce his “dear friend”.

Speaking from Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, where he currently has a residency, Elton’s video message saw him pronounce Sheeran’s name as “Shi-ran”. See in the clip beneath.

The mispronunciation was soon picked up on by social media users. One fan wrote: “Has everyone been saying Ed Sheeran’s surname wrong or does Elton John not know his name?”

Another added: “Elton John calling Ed Sheeran his friend and then pronouncing his name wrong is honestly the best thing that happened all night”.

“If Elton is calling him it, we’re all calling him it,” one tweet read.

Has everyone been saying Ed Sheeran's surname wrong or does Elton John not know his name?

If Elton is calling him it, we’re all calling him it. Ed Sheeran is now officially called “Ed Shuran” #BRITs

It has also been pointed out that Elton has been pronouncing Sheeran’s name wrong for quite a long time:
