Muse have opened up on how their new “epic” single will see the rock eras blending genres with influences taken directly from the 1980s.

The band, who will release comeback single ‘Thoughtback Contagion’ tomorrow, opened up on the 80s image of the single artwork – and whether it will influence the sound of the track.

“We’re getting into blending genres and eras together, both in the styles and in the music”, Matt Bellamy told NME.

“The video, well you’ve seen that artwork, it’s not really that 80s sounding but there’s some elements in the drums.

“It’s an arena sound and synths. There’s a couple of synths in it. It’s a pretty epic and anthemic track.

The release of ‘Thought Contagion’ comes after Muse dropped one-off single ‘Dig Down’ last May.

After appearing to send out a casting call for people to appear in their new music video, the band have now confirmed that their next single will be released tomorrow.

Last week the group shared a poster featuring bassist Chris Wolstenholme and have now unveiled what appears to be the single’s artwork.

In 2017, the band also confirmed that they were working once more with Rich Costey, who produced their third and fourth albums ‘Absolution’ and ‘Black Holes And Revelations’.
