BRIT Awards will be giving out white rose pins to attendees in support of #TimesUp campaign
 Add to favorites

The organisers of next week’s BRIT Awards have asked attendees to wear a white rose pin in support of the campaigns working to combat sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry.

The Brits wrote to the head of every record label in the UK to inform them in advance, reports The Guardian. The letter says that every public figure in attendance will be given a pin “as a symbol of solidarity, which we invite them to wear, if they so choose”.

The white rose has become a popular symbol in support of the #TimesUp and #MeToo campaigns since artists wore them in solidarity at the Grammy Awards last month.

Since the Grammys and the prominence of the Times Up movement there, Recording Academy president Neil Portnow has announced the formation of a new task force to tackle gender bias in the music industry – only days after he was accused of sexism.

The Brits have not announced any such mobilised force. Paloma Faith recently called out the BRIT Awards for the lack of female performers currently booked at to perform at the ceremony.

The 2018 awards takes place on February 21, and will see the likes of Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters, Rag’n’Bone Man, Sam Smith, and Stormzy perform. Dua Lipa is the only woman set to appear at present.

The 38th BRIT Awards will take place at London’s The O2 Arena on February 21. Jorja Smith is the first confirmed winner at the ceremony, having been voted the Critics Choice Award winner.
