Rita Ora has reportedly joined the cast of the upcoming Pokemon movie Detective Pikachu.

The live-action film is based on the gaming franchise of the same name. Late last year, it was revealed that Ryan Reynolds will star as Detective Pikachu himself with a motion-capture performance.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter has claimed that pop star Rita Ora has signed up to the project, though specific details surrounding her character are unknown.

This latest casting news follows Ora’s role in Fifty Shades Freed, in which she portrayed Christian Grey’s sister, Mia. Ora also teamed up with former One Directioner Liam Payne on the film’s soundtrack with the single ‘For You’.

Detective Pikachu is due to start shooting in January in London, with Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) as director. The cast also includes Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) and Justice Smith (Paper Towns, The Get Down).

The plot is said to follow Detective Pikachu’s quest to find the father of Justice Smith’s character after he is kidnapped. Newton’s character is a journalist who helps them along the way, according to reports.

Meanwhile, Rita Ora has recently been shortlisted for the British LGBT Awards. She is nominated for the ‘music artist’ award, alongside Dua Lipa, Frank Ocean, Jess Glynne and more.

The singer is scheduled to tour the UK in May.
