Kendrick Lamar accused of stealing artwork for ‘All The Stars’ video

Kendrick Lamar and SZA‘s video for All The Stars has been accused of stealing artwork from a British-Liberian artist.

According to the New York Times, artist Lina Iris Viktor was contacted by representatives from Marvel about the possibility of using her creations in November 2016 and December 2017, but she ultimately declined their offers on both occasions.

However, it is claimed that images bearing a distinct similarity to those from her ‘Constellations’ series appear in the video for Kendrick’s track at the 2.59 mark. You can watch it below.

Viktor’s lawyer Christopher Robinson has since contacted Anthony Tiffith, the CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment who produced and curated the Black Panther soundtrack on which the track appears.

“It’s an ethical issue, because what the whole film purports is that it’s about black empowerment, African excellence—that’s the whole concept of the story”, Robinson told the New York Times.

“And at the same time they’re stealing from African artists.”

Meanwhile, Kendrick kicked off the UK leg of his ‘DAMN.’ tour with a show at Birmingham’s Genting Arena on Friday night.

In our official verdict, NME said: ” It’s the sweetest pickings from his back catalogue that really keep the night flowing: the effervescent funk of ‘King Kunta’, the ballsy brilliance of ‘Backseat Freestyle’, the still-stunning and anthemic ‘Alright’ – even his star turn on the jittering Schoolboy Q track ‘Collard Greens’ is met with one of the biggest roars of approval of the night.”
