There’s a petition to banish Alex Turner’s beard
 Add to favorites

As we get closer to finally hearing new music from Arctic Monkeys, some fans are concerned that Alex Turner is still sporting his new hairy look – with the petition ‘Banish The Beard’ now in action.

The bearded Turner was first spotted in July last year, while he was attending the Spotify-hosted listening party for Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Lust for Life’ in West Hollywood.

Now, with the first live shows of Arctic Monkeys’ new era announced, some fans are worried that his questionable facial fuzz remains. Taking matters into her own hands, Eabha Lynn – who prefers a clean-shaven Turner – has set up a Change.org petition to help the cause.

“Alex Turner, the critically acclaimed and adored by many lead singer of the Arctic Monkeys had the opportunity to age like fine wine,” Lynn posted on the petition. “It all went so dreadfully wrong, however, when he decided to grow a beard.”

“Visually unappealing, its ginger colour strikes you – and not in a good way – contrasting with his famously deep brown hair and eyes,” the post continues. “Genetics gave him many opportunities in this life, an iconic signing voice, facial structure that could cut a man. They did not, however, give him the opportunity to look good with a beard. Or even to properly grow one.”

Showing concern for how the facial hair could affect upcoming live shows, Lynn says: “If this beard keeps growing, will us fans even be able to hear that voice from behind the beard?”

Meanwhile, last month saw the band announce a huge run of festival dates throughout Europe and America, including headline slots at NOS Alive and Primavera Sound. They’ll also be headlining TRSMT Festival in Scotland on Sunday July 1, where they’ll be joined by Interpol, Blossoms, Nothing But Thieves, Declan McKenna, Miles Kane and Tom Grennan.

News from the Sheffield group has been relatively quiet over the last few years. A number of photos of the group seemingly in the studio emerged earlier this year, sparking speculation that work was well underway on the next LP.
