Dev Hynes has unveiled two tracks as Blood Orange to mark Black History Month. Check out ‘Christopher & 6th’ and ‘June 12th’ below.

Neither song will feature on his upcoming album, suggesting the singer-songwriter and film scorer has been quite busy since his 2016 release ‘Freetown Sound’.

The two tracks are collated in a playlist entitled ‘Black History’. Both tracks are soulful, mellow and play off the same style as the 2016 album. ‘Christopher & 6th’ is a mash of moody and soulful influences, whereas ‘June 12th’ plays off the darker more ambient tones seen in his previous works. The lyrics in both discuss issues related to identity.

The on post is captioned: “TWO NEW SONGS. Not from the next album. Christopher & 6th / June 12th link in bio” followed by “U must luv yourself Happy Black History Month. (All year)”.

These tracks come at a time where Hynes’ has been posting cryptic messages on Instagram that seem to suggest a fourth album is very much on the way.

In addition to his work as Blood Orange, Lightspeed Champion, and Test Icicles, Hynes has collaborated with the likes of Solange, Nelly Furtado, Connan Mockasin, and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Earlier this year, Hynes teamed up with Bryndon Cook of Starchild & the New Romantic to form new project VeilHymn.

Hynes has also recently posted footage of him practising for a concert with Phillip Glass at the Kennedy Centre later this month.
