IDM

IDM (from English Intelligent Dance Music - "intellectual dance music") is a subgenre of electronic music that arose in the early 1990s. In the broadest sense, IDM is dance music with abstract sound, more suitable for listening in headphones than for dancing in a club. There is no clear description of this genre. In some tracks, the melody predominates, in others it is minimized and the rhythm - rigid and ripped, created from rustles, squeaks and distorted drum sounds dominates. Some performers are closer to ambient and sound abstraction, while others emphasize the dance base in their music, while others work with an industrial-noise sound. The term IDM was distributed through the NME magazine, which published a review by Ben Willmott, where the lines were: "Modern intellectual dance music is much more obliged to the mantropodal repetitions coming from the East and the instrumental neo-emient than the disco era that preceded the flowering of techno." The name "intellectual dance music" is often criticized. According to Aphex Twin, the emphasis on intellectuality in this case subtly hints at the fact that the other directions are not different, which is not always fair. In 1993, the English label Warp Records released compilations of "Artificial Intelligence I" and "Artificial Intelligence II", which became notable for this direction. The discs featured Aphex Twin, Autechre, Speedy J, B12, Link, Beuamont Hannant, Seefeel. Every weekday is a new playlist in the "Genre of the Day" rubric.
