Emo-rap: alternative hip-hop

History, including music, is cyclical. Not surprisingly, ten years after the peak of emo culture, the latter found its new embodiment - this time in the versatility of the subgraphs of modern foreign hip-hop. The fashion came in sincerity: the fact is that people are tired of the gloss of pop culture. Rappers began to give their best in the texts: it's not just rhymed "square" lines about money, girls and doping under the standard "boom-bap" bit. One of the main hits of last year "XO Tour Llif3" from Lil Uzi Vert is not a radical political statement or routine bragging about the earnings and the thickness of chains around the neck. "All my friends are dead, push me to the edge" - reads the rapper from the scene in front of a huge stadium of fans on one of the latest live video. According to the old tradition, criminals also read rap. Jace Onfroy, better known as XXXTENTATION last year, was presented with a whole list of ads: a 20-year-old leader of the "new school" is accused of domestic violence, threats to witnesses and not only. At the same time, Onfroy writes surprisingly frank multi-genre music, from traps-insurgents to guitar acoustics, where in the texts he literally turns out his soul and speaks honestly about depression, feelings and their consequences. A good example of what is sometimes better to separate creativity from the artist's personality. About another generation hero, Lil Peep, we can only say in the past tense. In November last year, Gustav Ar (real name of the artist) died from an overdose of prohibited substances. All this happened on the tour, after which Gustav was to release the second part of the album "Come Over When You Sober" - the first part of the record, combining recitative with guitar cuts and self-destruction texts, was accepted by listeners as a manifesto of the emo culture revival. About this and not only - our new collection of unusual hip-hop: remember, it's better to be sad listening to your favorite music, and destructive thoughts should be sent far away.
