Reggaeton

In the 70s and 80s, emigrants from Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Panama, living in America, began to sing songs in reggae style in Spanish. Later they were supplemented with a recitative, and by the nineties a new genre of reggaeton arose. In addition to hip-hop, it was influenced by club music, as well as traditional Latin American motifs. Until recently, reggaeton, like dancing to this music, was harassed by the Puerto Rican authorities because of the frankness of the texts and movements. Among the bright performers of reggaeton are Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Ivy Queen, J. Balvin and Zion y Lennox.
